A different approach to self-fulfillment

Having read the author's book "My Dreams Matter," I was looking forward to reading "Quiet the Mind." The format of Quiet the Mind is a series of questions that encourage the reader to reflect on their life and to enable them to experience life to the fullest. Some questions are quite serious, while others lean to the whimsical, such as "If you could be any animal in the world for just one day, what would you be and why?" (I chose dolphin, since they look like they're always happy and enjoying life.) For those who like to doodle and color while they're pondering their answers, each page is illustrated with the author's line drawings. It's definitely a very different approach to a self-help or self-fulfillment book, but it may be just what you've been looking for. If you're curious, check out the free sample online. It's very short, but it will give you an idea of what to expect.

Cannot say enough good things.

I recently purchased this book upon rediscovering how much I love coloring. I am a middle school teacher and work can be pretty stressfull and often I find myself giving so much to my job that I forget about myself. This book has allowed me to rediscover my own needs: mentally, spiritually and coloring(ly). The repeating of passages was something I laughed at at first, however I have discovered that while writing those lines over and over, I am able to better focus on exactly what I'm writing and clear everything else out. Overall, this book is very relaxing and I look forward to completing a page or two each night before I go to bed (much better than messing around on my phone).

Like a Gentle Breeze Which Encourages Dreaming While Awake

Quiet the Mind is a must-have for anyone looking for ways to achieve clarity and focus, particularly in life-long dreams. Not unlike Lynette Rozine Prock's (other) coloring book and journal, My Dreams Matter, Quiet the Mind is like a meditative walk along a stretch of ocean, where jumbled thoughts can be sorted amidst the sometimes overwhelming noise and activity of crashing waves and calling seagulls. Written journal entries are made easy by self-reflective and thought-provoking prompts. Blank spaces are available for doodling or writing, while beautifully rendered line drawings adorn almost every page to encourage coloring/art therapy for the weary soul and mind. Also included are short texts to aid visualization and meditation, a guide to making a mandala, and a scavenger hunt for everyday items which almost literally tasks one to "stop and smell the roses." The writing and artwork, which seem simple at first, actually allow for more in-depth questions, thoughts, creativity, and revelations than would more detailed and specific prompts. Quiet the Mind is like a journey into one's creative and positive center for anyone who uses it, at any age, for any gender, and at any stage of life.

While living in Paris in the 1950s Alexander Trocchi was commissioned by Maurice Girodias, publisher of Olympia Press, to write "dirty books." Trocchi wrote Helen and Desire in one week in December 1953 and it was published under the pen name Frances Lengel. The book is the diary of Helen, daughter of a fishing boat captain in a rural village in Northwest Australia, who plans to use her natural enjoyment of sex to have adventures and travel the world. Determined to flout convention and chronicle her life, Helen writes of her loss of innocence on the eve of her 18th birthday, her use of men and their use of her, and her travels to Sydney, Singapore, India, France, and finally the deserts of North Africa. It is here that two officers of the French Foreign Legion who find Helen's journal make it public.

Five-star content, three-star printing

I bought this book for chapters 6 and 7 on hyperelasticity and the thermodynamics of solid continua, and professor Holzapfel does not disappoint. His explanations are careful and precise (for example he painstakingly notes when quantities like energy density are relative to the reference configuration of the object), and he synthesizes a great deal of advanced material on nonlinear elasticity in a form more accessible to non-mathematicians than Truesdell. This book is an invaluable reference for my work on computational nonlinear elastics.
The only drawback is the quality of the printing. The text itself is perfectly legible, about equivalent to a good laser printer, but it's printed on rough paper that makes fine lines slightly wavy. The figures are all halftoned at low resolution, so they show very noticeable artifacts, though they are still legible. Inside the back cover, it says "Made in the USA, San Bernardino CA, 12 November 2016" (the day after I ordered it), so it must be a print-on-demand book. That would be fine for a novel, but not for a $70-plus-dollar reference book.

Great as a reference book. Covers a lot of material and does it well with examples. It would be difficult to self teach from this book, though I believe that is because the material is very difficult, not because the book does not cover it.

About the Author
Alessio Ponzio received his PhD in history and politics from the Universit� Roma Tre and is now pursuing a second degree at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in women’s studies and history. He has held fellowships at the Newhouse Center for the Humanities at Wellesley College and the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.

Allgemeines Ziel des Buches ist, den Roboter als kognitives Modell und damit als wissensbasierten Agenten zu konzeptionalisieren und dieses Agentenmodell durch rechnerbasierte Technologien in prozessualer und funktionaler Hinsicht zu einem kognitiven Robotersystem auszugestalten. Das Ziel eines solchen Ansatzes liegt in der Steigerung des systemischen Intelligenzquotienten (IQS) des Robotersystems.

Erreichbar wird dieses Ziel durch eine Konzeptionalisierung auf Basis einer Kognitionstheorie, der (Aus)implementierung dieser Modelle durch den Einsatz der Cognitive Computing Technologie unter Verwendung der Programmiersprache Java und der Validierung dieser Roboterl�sungen im Rahmen von Simulationen.

Das Buch wendet sich gleicherma�en an Studierende, Fachleute aller Fachrichtungen als auch den interessierten Leser. Matthias Haun ist als Business Developer, Solution Manager und Principal eines gro�en Beratungshauses f�r die Entwicklung sogenannter „kognitiven L�sungen“ (cognitive solutions) verantwortlich, bei denen es darum geht, Organisationen (St�dte, Kommunen, Industrie-unternehmen) als wissensbasierte bzw. kognitive Modelle zu konzeptionalisieren und diese Modelle mit kognitiven Systemen (kognitive Roboter, Pr�ventionssysteme etc.) „intelligent“ auszugestalten. Au�erdem leitet er ein interdisziplin�res Forschungsprogramm, in dessen Rahmen die zuk�nftigen Paradigmen und Technologien des Cognitive Computings durch die Orchestrierung „klassischer“ und neuer L�sungsans�tze konzeptionalisiert und durch Hard- und Softwarel�sungen realisiert werden. Zuvor zeichnete er sich in den letzten 25 Jahren f�r die Entwicklung zahlreicher intelligenter Pr�ventions-, Interventions- bzw. Entscheidungssysteme im Finanzdienstleistungsbereich, in der Automatisierungs- und Fertigungsindustrie, im Mobilit�tssektor und in der Robotik verantwortlich.
