I bought this thinking it was like a real Factory Service Manual or thereabouts

I bought this thinking it was like a real Factory Service Manual or thereabouts. This manual will not tell you how to remove and replace an engine. It will not tell you anything about how to make sure the Cams are set properly. It does not tell you what order to tighten the cam carrier bolts, the head bolts, or the intake bolts. It gives diagrams but that's it. There are no trouble shooting guides anywhere in the manual. That being said, it was very helpful in removing the transmission to install a new clutch, and I used it to guide me in removing a door panel. It also helped with the turbo install and the timing belt and component install. There's a lot of general information in it. The last 100 pages or so are very small complicated wiring diagrams. Not really very useful.

Not exactly what You would think

This Book while detailed in some aspects does not go into other things that one would hope would be in there. There is no Diagrams for basic things such as engine cooling systems, Flush instructions, pump replacement and that's about it, there are many things that are missed. Transmission section is scarce for the Automatics although there is an extensive section on repair of the cabriolet top??? I had to buy another book for the transmission and found more information about the cooling system and its routing on the web. If you are looking to to do basic maintenance this is for you, if you really want to be able to service every aspect of the car pay for the factory service manual.

I do all my auto maintenance myself because I am both mechanically inclined and phenomenally cheap. But I still like to have nice stuff. I've replaced timing belts before (Honda Civics) and have rebuilt some old motorcycle engines. I'm no stranger to detailed engine work.
I ordered this manual because it's time to replace the timing belt on my 2005 A4 Cabrio (3.0 V6) and I couldn't download anything similar for free. I worried about shelling out a hundred bucks because of some of the less-than-glowing reviews here. I'm glad to say that in my humble opinion, this book is well worth the price. I haven't actually done the job yet, but have gone through the book flagging the pages I'll need during the job. It is an outstanding reference.
As a point of reference, I was quoted over $2,500 by my local dealer to do the timing belt (essentially the 75K mile service). Even after purchasing this manual, all the parts and a $400 VAG scan tool, I'll still be saving nearly $1,400. And that, my friend, is real money.
I've purchased stuff on Amazon for years & years. I think this may be the first review I've ever written. That's how strongly I feel about the value of this book.
