I found this book as a youth, my parents generation were the ones who fought and lived through this period and I found the book gave me insight into not only the war but the way they processed this turbulent time, and it's damn funny! Anybody who ever served in the armed forces will recognize the situations and the humor.

Wonderful old book. The younger generations could learn much from this. I first saw an autographed copy by the author which was given to my mother by a soldier who served with Bill Mauldin in WWII. Great reading!

This is a great book. I have ordered other programs in the past such as fitness accelerator and better memory for passing exams and they helped me out pretty good. I thought for someone like my self trying to get the edge in the job market, the Covert Hypnosis would be just the thing. This program is loaded with a bunch of information that has already helped me in class. Being able to give teachers ideas that they thought was theirs in the first place really shocked me, but what really turns me on to this book is the fact I speak with more confidence. I think out what I say before I put my foot in my mouth. The book goes over things like cause and effect, tag questions, cue words, and so much more. The book goes into details on how each tool is used and explains it pretty clearly. I found it hard to believe how easy it is to sneak your own ides into someone else mind. Studying psychology I learned about this type of process and always felt it worked better than the office type hypnosis that some people can fail to get help with the direct approach. Covert Hypnosis is easy to use without others knowing that you are using it on them. Now be aware that some people is very low IQ's may not be able to be hypnotized, but this style can be put to use any where. I knew of a law enforcement officer that talk a person out of jumping off a building using cue words that this book talks about.I have read with book and will study it again as there is so much this book contains that requires going back over, but it is worth the time. To be honest, I would have paid more for this book and it is a steal for the price. Hi I love this book it is EZ 2 read and is actually fun using these techniques
also teaches me some things about myself and what I do or don;t do.

I HIGHLY suggest getting this book NOW while the price is not even close 2 what we get inside this book.

Fun part is practicing this..one step at a time..I am excited thinking about what this NEW language will
do 4 me.

Excellent book, Each point is explained with examples that are lucid and easy to understand. I have other books about covert hypnosis, however this one beats all the others because there is no filler material included.

About the Author
Lee Judah Ames (January 8, 1921 – June 3, 2011 ) was an American artist noted for his Draw 50... learn-to-draw books. He was born in Manhattan, New York. His first job at age eighteen was at Walt Disney Studios. He has since led a career as an advertising artist, fine artist, cartoonist, designer, animation in-betweener, illustrator, and as an artist-in residence at Doubleday. His series of 26 Draw 50... books take a friendly and minimalist approach to teaching drawing while the books often contain no instructional text. He enlisted in the military and served as a second lieutenant during World War II. He and his wife Jocelyn resided in Mission Viejo, California.

Great book!

I can't draw very well, so I bought this book to improve my drawing. This is a Great book for beginners! Gives you an idea how to start off and how it should looked finished! Awesome book as a "get started guide type". And After you got the idea of how to start to draw the monsters you can create your own. Perfect idea for kids that love to draw!

Great basic drawing book for the young AND young-at-heart.

Lee Ames does another excellent job, as he does with his entire "Draw 50" series. His step-by-step format is easy to use and quite rewarding as well. Ames is the only drawing artist that simplifies the drawings so that anyone can follow and become adept at drawing intriguing figures. This particular edition contains a great variety of characters to draw and will be on and off any doodler's bookshelf for years

I got this for my 11 year old Grandson for a Christmas present and he loved it.. i also purchased a sketch pad and some artist pencils for him to use and before he opened any other gifts he had the pad and book open and was starting to draw monsters. His mom said he just loved the book, so easy to use with clear instructions. Any kid who has a artist streak in him or her would enjoy the book...

About the Author
K. Anders Ericsson is Conradi Eminent Scholar and Professor of Psychology at Florida State University. In 1976 he received his PhD in Psychology from University of Stockholm, Sweden, followed by post-doctoral fellowship at Carnegie-Mellon University. His current research concerns the structure and acquisition of expert performance and in particular how expert performers acquire and maintain their superior performance by extended deliberate practice. He has published many books including Toward a General Theory of Expertise: Prospects and Limits and The Road to Excellence: The Acquisition of Expert Performance in the Arts and Sciences, Sports, and Games.

Neil Charness is Professor of Psychology at Florida State University and Research Associate at the Pepper Institute on Aging and Public Policy. He is also the Director of the Cognitive and Behavioral Sciences area in the department of Psychology at FSU. He has written many articles and chapters on the topics of age, human factors, and expert performance. He is on the editorial board of Gerontechnology, Psychology and Aging and the Journal of Gerontology: Psychological Sciences.

Robert R. Hoffman, Ph.D. is a Research Scientist at the State of Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition, which is located in Pensacola. He is also an Adjunct Instructor at the Department of Psychology of the University of West Florida in Pensacola. His research has garnered him a designation as one of the pioneers of Expertise Studies. Hoffman has been recognized on an international level in at least five disciplines - remote sensing, meteorology, experimental psychology, human factors, and artificial intelligence. Within psycholinguistics, he has made pioneering contributions, having founded the journal Metaphor and Symbol, and having written extensively on the theory of analogy. He is co-editor of the Regular Department Human Centered Computing in the journal IEEE: Intelligent Systems.

Paul J. Feltovich is a Research Scientist at the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition, University of West Florida, Pensacola. He has conducted research and published on topics such as expert-novice differences in complex cognitive skills; conceptual understanding and misunderstanding for complex knowledge; and novel means of instruction in complex and ill-structured knowledge domains. Since joining IHMC, he has been investigating coordination, regulation, and teamwork in mixed groups of humans and intelligent software agents. He has authored nearly one hundred professional articles and two books.

Being an Expert

I have noticed this book while I was reading "The Social Animal", and been very surprised that it was published in 2006. As a medical specialist, which is an expertise, as well, I can say that, what we call "sense de clinic" or "the gut feeling" is an expert opion, or a product of a function operation with subtle parameters. Those subtle parameters are rarely seen by laypeople, but when noticed, the importance of them is not clearly understood because of its role in its group is not understood. As Confucius said: "The begining of wisdom is to call things by their proper name.", and this book is very well written on expertise, and calls it with its proper name.I definitely recommend it to the people who wants to be an expert on any subject.

Unique Book with Interesting Insights

One of the coolest books on the market. It is a compilation of articles by researchers who study experts in all different fields such as chess, soccer, medicine, financial advisors, etc. There are many findings that are totally at odds with what most people think it takes to be an expert. The main finding is that most experts are actually made, not born, and that expertise usually follows only after years of deliberate practice and continuous feedback. Many of the ideas in the book can be applied to other fields so it is a good book to read if you want know how to become an expert at what you do for a living or a hobby. It also provides good insights into what to look for when you need to hire an expert, like a surgeon or a lawyer.

I gave it four stars instead of five because even as research books go the writing is a bit dry. However, if there was ever a condensed version of this book written for the masses I suspect it would become a runaway best seller in a fashion to Thomas Stanley's The Millionaire Next Door. The Millionaire Next Door book is a research based book that disproved many of the common perceptions about how millionaires live - most actually do not drive flashy cars and wear designer clothes, but instead live below their means and are very frugal. I think this book could do the same to dispel common misconceptions about experts if it were rewritten for the general public.

About the Author
Wayne Gretzky, nicknamed “The Great One,” is considered by many to be the greatest hockey player ever. He is the leading scorer in NHL history, and is the only NHL player to total more than two hundred points in one season—a feat he accomplished four times. At the time of his retirement in 1999, he held sixty-one separate NHL records (forty regular season, fifteen playoff, and six All-Star)—and still holds most of them today. His honors include 31 Hart, Art Ross, Conn Smythe, Lester B. Pearson, and Lady Byng trophies and awards.

His teams included the Edmonton Oilers (1979–1988, including four Stanley Cups), the Los Angeles Kings (1988–1996, including a Stanley Cup final), the St. Louis Blues (1996), and the New York Rangers (1996–1999). Following his retirement, he became the ninth and final player to be ushered into the Hall of Fame with no waiting period, and the first to have his jersey number retired league-wide.

Among his activities since, he has been minority owner and head coach of the Phoenix Coyotes and executive director of Canada’s 2002 gold medal-winning men’s hockey team, and is a restaurateur, winemaker, and philanthropist with his own Wayne Gretzky Foundation. He lives with his family in Westlake Village, California.

Gretzky Scores Again!

Even the casual hockey fan knows the name and the legend of Wayne Gretzky and it's hard to separate the person from his reputation as The Great One. This is a wonderful book because it celebrates Gretzky's love and reverence for the game by examining the 99 year history of the NHL through the eyes of its greatest player. The stories of the players that made hockey such a wonderful sport through the early years are interspersed with Gretzky's stories of how those players impacted his development as a person and as a player. As such, this book is not only a terrific work of sports history, but also a fabulous autobiography that yields compelling insights into Gretzky himself. Much like Gordie Howe's autobiography, Mr. Hockey, I was left with an overwhelming sense of just how down to earth some sports superstars can be. Rather than extolling their own virtues, these players constantly talk about Gratitude. It's all about how grateful they are to their parents, coaches, teammates and their fans. If you are sick and tired of the typical ego-maniacal professional athlete, read this book for a breath of fresh air.

A good history of hockey

The book chronicles the development of hockey in North America with many personal anecdotes of individual players. It provides a rough framework of the development of the NHL. That said, Wayne is a far better hockey player than he is a writer.
